Cochlear Implant Center

As one of the oldest and largest cochlear implant programs in the country, the VCU Cochlear Implant Program has been caring for children and adults with severe hearing loss since 1984. With more than 1,000 patients implanted, our clinicians have experience with patients of all backgrounds, hearing losses, and cochlear anatomy. Two areas of particular interest are hearing preservation and malformed or ossified cochlear implantation.

Research

The section of otology, neurotology and skull base surgery has a long and established record of research productivity and funding support. These projects have ranged from retrospective case series to prospective multi-institutional clinical trials.

We highly encourage residents to participate in our research efforts, and the vast majority of our publications include at least one resident co-author. For examples of scientific output, click the Faculty Expertise button on a team member’s contact card below.

Pulsatile Tinnitus

Another area of excellence within the section of otology and neurotology is the diagnosis and management of patients with Pulsatile Tinnitus. With more than 30 years of experience as a national and international referral center, our clinicians and researchers have experience that is second to none. Our multidisciplinary team of otolaryngologists, audiologists, neurologists, neuro-ophthalmologists, radiologists and neurosurgeons collaborate to provide the latest medical and minimally invasive surgical options available to this unique patient population.
